Isnt he just fabulous? Standing there all straight and regal with just hint of that underlying cheeky curiosity. Sir Swoopington came to be one sunny day when I was sitting in my backyard with a sketch book.  We have a family of Magpies that nest in one of our large gum trees. This young man was extremely curious, and we had a great discussion. The way he stands and chats, it felt like he had swooped in, reporting for duty, to give me the morning report.

I really enjoyed painting this, it all came together quite quickly for me. It is a small painting and I think I might need to further explore my local family of magpies and see where it takes me.
